I often do interior color consulting, usually with flat painted color, but also with direct application pattern design on walls, floors, etc.
This work begins with me visiting the home, listening and observing, asking questions, feeling out preferences and sometimes preconceptions about color. I do some ad hoc color theory teaching, and we break out color fans to start the ideas rolling.
We break for a day or two to let the shared ideas sink in. I return with several color concepts, involving color intensity and value, warm-cool relationships, a bit of feng shui, color families and opposites, and the potential for color flow throughout the house.
Most of this presentation has been gleaned from the first meeting, and some ideas will challenge and expand upon the first impressions I receive from the client. We work from there, locking in the central theme(s) and becoming more specific in detail over time. Much of the work is quite concrete, even as my intuition plays a major role in throwing out suggestions.
I love doing this work. There are so many possibilities, and the end result reflects the personal character of the client, with any number of surprises thrown in. I am invariably amazed by the result.
This work must be done on site with the client(s), as it is a collaboration from the first meeting.
